American Education Week November 14-18, 2011

Since 1921, a week has been set aside to let educators know how much they are appreciated.  I wanted to take a moment and recognize the fact that throughout the nation, schools have taken some time to commemorate the great service that teachers provide for the next generation of Americans.  I can assure you, the thankless and tiring work they put in guiding our children does not go unnoticed.

I believe one of our State’s most precious resources is our educator’s leadership.  Education is a central focus for most Tennesseans because we  understand the importance it has for the future of our State.  Due to that, every individual owes educators a debt of gratitude for your hard work.

As William Butler Yeats stated so eloquently, “education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire.”  Quite simply, the educators are the spark responsible for a thousand flames in Tennessee.  I congratulate every educator on their success and I want to thank them for their devotion to shaping the minds of our nation’s next great leaders.
