March 2nd Update

Wow!! We are finally getting to work. We have over 100 bills filed that affect education. I have been busy touring many schools throughout Wilson County. I have also been listening to teachers.

I have held 2 teacher forums already – one in Wilson County and one in Trousdale. I have spoken with administrators, school board members, teachers and parents. My goal in deciding what to do about each of these bills is to put students first and to make their education the key to my decisions.

February 17th was the last day to file bills. I only filed five bills. My goal is not to bring more laws and regulations but LESS. One bill I filed concerns the Four Lake Authority. It is is supposed to help five local counties bring in economic development. It has a Board of over 20 members from five different counties and government agencies. I am now on that Board. I believe the Four Lake Authority can do more than it has over the past 25 yrs. We will be closely looking at how it can be more effective.

Session is now in full swing. Next week I will be in Cannon County to hear from more teachers. I will be holding an open meeting in the Chamber in Lebanon on Friday, March 4th from 8:00 until 10:00 am. I will have an open meeting in Hartsville from 1:00 until 3:00 pm. These meeting are open to anyone who would like to talk to me about any concerns they may have. I want to hear from the people I represent.
